About the Owner, John Linderman, Jr.
John Linderman, Jr. grew up in Western North Carolina in a small working-class family that farmed on the weekends. Two hardworking parents and four children all occupied a small four-room house with 75 acres of land. Most of what they consumed in terms of vegetables and protein was produced on their farm. Large gardens, tended with the help of grandparents, chickens, pigs, cows, and horses all shared their farm and provided food for the table. John's parents both worked in the grocery stores in town, with his mother managing the front end of a Harris Teeter and his father managing the meat department at the A&P. John spent a lot of time working in both stores, sorting and stacking the returned empty soda bottles at Harris Teeter and cleaning and washing saws, counters, and floors in the meat department at the A&P. They butchered and processed pigs and chickens on the farm. Cows were sent out, but processed back at home mostly by his father. Thanksgiving was always a working holiday on the farm, with several pigs being killed and processed each year. They made their own sausage, hams, pork chops, and utilized every other part of the pig. As a family, they ate well. John's father was always particular about their meat. Every Saturday night was steak, baked potato, and tossed salad. Most Saturdays, John's Linderman grandparents ate with them, with steaks cooked on the grill outside.
Although not a cook himself, John loves the fellowship around a table with a good meal. The dream of this steakhouse was fueled by the memories of Saturday nights with a hardworking, loving family. His hope is that this steakhouse will provide great steaks at a fair price, creating memories for hardworking North Carolina families.
